People around the world have different ways of expressing their emotions. Many people use music as a way to release the emotions they feel inside. When listeners analyze a song sometimes they can understand what an artist might feel or better understand their perspective. Many African American artists sing about how African American communities are dragged into a never ending cycle of poverty and criminal activity. Some artists many have a different perceptive on the future of these communities where they grew up in. Gang Starr’s â€Å"Code of the Streets† and 2Pac â€Å"Changes† exposes the experience of living, being raised in a poor community expressing different emotions in the song. An artist can be influence to write a certain style of music by the environment they might have grew up. Gang Starr and 2Pac had different upbringings, which influenced their style of music. It’s important to understand their upbringing because the artist might see the world differently. 2Pac from a young age â€Å"took to the streets, selling drugs and becoming involved in the gang culture† (Ray). When being part of the gang culture it inspired him to write songs about what he had witnessed. In contrast, Gang Starr known as Guru was raised in a respectable home because his father was a judge for the â€Å"Boston municipal courts, and his mother, Barbara, was the co-director of library programs in the Boston public school system† (Caramanica).
